This competition entry for a multi-use community complex for Women and Family in Seoul Korea seeks to combine the diverse program functions in a way that encourages interaction and exploration of the building by users and visitors. The building accommodates various programs which are grouped around a concept of making and craft as a way to engage with community and society. The open ground floor accommodates a large craft market, which is terraced to negotiate a change in levels and a route through the site. A split level section to the upper floors allows visual connection between floors and a spiral circulation around a central atrium space to be generated leading up to a roof garden and Cafe. The design seeks to maximise the possibilities of the program arrangement by concentrating the structure within four cores which act as "table legs" for the slabs wrapping around. The use of a structural diagrid facade as well as internal bracing elements allows a column-free arrangement to the internal market area, as well as a large cantilever to shelter an external spill-out area.
